What are Porcelain Veneers?
For patients in the Downers Grove, Naperville or Chicago areas, our porcelain veneers are an extremely natural-looking way to beautify the smile. At our Chicago area office, we use porcelain veneers to create a whiter smile or to fix minor imperfections in teeth, like gaps or chips.
A veneer is a thin piece of porcelain that has been customized to fit over the front of the tooth, providing an overall improved appearance. During your initial visit to our Downers Grove office for porcelain veneers, Dr. Webster will make room by removing a small portion of your enamel. Measurements will then be taken, and the color of the porcelain will be chosen to create a uniform appearance. This will assure that the porcelain veneer fits over the existing tooth and that the shading matches surrounding teeth. A temporary cap is attached to the front of the tooth while the veneer is being shaped.
During your next visit, the temporary veneer is removed and the new porcelain veneer will be applied to the tooth.
Porcelain veneers provide a range of treatment options for our Chicago area patients. Porcelain veneers guarantee a permanently whiter smile for patients that are not happy with traditional tooth whitening treatments. Additionally, porcelain veneers can correct imperfections such as chipped, gapped, and crooked teeth. Contact our Naperville area office in Downers Grove to find out how porcelain veneers can improve your overall appearance.
Many patients seeking straighter teeth avoid corrective dental treatment because they think braces are their only option. Braces can be painful, and can take months, or even years to achieve desired appearance. Porcelain veneers provide patients with a treatment option that can improve their smile in as little as one appointment.
Our office between Naperville and Chicago offers the best available treatment for porcelain veneers. Our veneers can change tooth coloring, close small gaps between teeth, or repair irregularly shaped teeth. Contact our Downers Grove office today to learn more about porcelain veneers and how we can make them work for you.
What are Dental Crowns?
A dental crown offered by our Aurora area office is similar to a veneer - it is a porcelain covering used to fix flaws in the teeth. However, crowns can be used to rebuild teeth, and they generally serve a structural function, whereas veneers are usually used for aesthetic purposes.
A dental crown can restore a tooth to its original shape and size, making it stronger and improving its appearance. If a tooth has been broken or decayed, a crown may be necessary to strengthen it and restore its function. Crowns are also used to support a tooth with a large filling, to attach a bridge, to protect a tooth from breaking, or to fix a broken tooth.
Unlike a porcelain veneer, a dental crown, or “cap,” fits over and encases the entire tooth. Before making a dental crown at our Aurora-area offices, Dr. Webster must first alter the size of a tooth so that the crown will fit over it. Then, our offices will make a mold of the tooth. A temporary crown is placed over the tooth until the final crown has been fabricated from the mold. Two weeks later, once the permanent crown has been shaped, Dr. Webster removes the temporary crown and cements the permanent crown to the tooth. Permanent crowns can be made of metal, porcelain, or a combination of the two.
Dr. Webster's office just east of Aurora is committed to giving you dental crowns of the highest quality. If you have a tooth that is severely damaged or decayed, a dental crown may be your best option. Not only will the dental crown save the tooth, but it will also improve the appearance of your smile. Dr. Webster will carefully match the color of your crown to the color of your surrounding teeth and meticulously shape the crown so that your smile looks natural and beautiful.
